Patient Forms
Upon entering our office, our receptionist will welcome you as a member of our family. You will, of course, need to fill out some forms regarding your personal and health information. For you convenience, we have made our most common forms available online (located in the New Patient Center). This paperwork provides us with your health history and information pertinent to your condition; as well as being vital to our understanding of your problem, and ability to help you. Completing them in advance in the comfort of your home or office, saves you time and provides you access to information that you may need to look up.
Consultation
Next, you will have a consultation with Dr. Dewald to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, and potential treatment options. This initial visit is designed for "Doc" to learn more about you, your condition, and expectations; to determine how we can best help you meet your goals. If you have any reports or x-ray films, please bring them with you.
Examination
After your consultation, Dr. Dewald will perform a complete chiropractic examination; testing your range of motion and posture. Other standard neurological, orthopedic, and physical tests will be performed as well. However, nothing will be done in our office without your consent.
Imaging Studies
Depending on your specific condition, we may send you out for X-rays or an MRI. These tools help us to know more accurately what is going on, and allows us to develop the most effective treatment plan for you. It also alerts us of any serious underlying conditions. Most people are amazed once they see their X-rays up close. In some cases, they can even identify their misalignments and degeneration themselves. As they say, "a picture is worth a thousand words".
"To see is to know, not to see is to guess. we won't guess with your health."
Report of Findings
Once the information is collected and examinations are performed, Dr. Dewald will give you a detailed report of all findings and answer any questions including:
- How can you help me?
- How often do I need to come in?
- How long will it take?
- What will my treatment cost?
After reviewing your health history, goals, and examining your spine and any imaging studies, Dr. Dewald will discuss recommendations and notify you if your condition requires care with other providers. Dr. Dewald will provide the best treatment, recommendations and wellness program for your specific needs.
Treatment
Following the History, Exam and Discussion of Findings, we will immediately begin your treatment program; no coming back tomorrow like some offices. This typically includes physical therapy, and/or soft tissue massage first to relax and warm your tight soft tissues. You can review our full list of potential therapy options under "About us - Services & Techniques". Treatment is interactive, so you should feel free to express any questions or concerns about the different styles of treatment at anytime. We want you to understand your condition as well as your treatment. We find that many people are apprehensive about getting adjusted, or "cracked". If you are one of them, rest assured that we have MANY alternative tools at our disposal for managing your condition. No patient is adjusted without being fully comfortable and relaxed.
Wellness Program
Prior to leaving, the doctor will suggest a wellness program to incorporate into your daily life outside of the office. If you are in pain when you first come into our office this may include: ice or heat application instructions (heat, stretch, ice, rest - 15 min each), certain activities or positions to avoid, and at home exercises and/or stretches. If you desire, our wellness team will work with you also to create healthy habits and routines for your lifestyle. Every person is unique, therefore everyone requires a customized wellness plan. The purpose of our wellness program is for you to achieve good spinal alignment, have a healthy diet, exercise, and maintain a positive mental state.
